Letter from Williamson, serving as U.S. consul in Venezuela, to his wife in the United States. Writing from La Guayra, Venezuela, Williamson describes his acute loneliness and longing for the companionship of his wife, his mission in Venezuela, his frustration at his position's lack of power and influence, and his contempt for what he considers lax and immoral Sunday customs in La Guayra.
